Flexible Working

Flexible Working

The legal right to request flexible working is restricted to employees who need to care for:

  • a child aged 16 or under; or
  • a child with a disability aged 17 or under; or
  • an adult with care needs to whom they are related; or
  • an adult with care needs who is a member of their household.

However, the College supports the principle of flexible working for all staff, even if the reason for such a request is not to meet the care needs of another person. Therefore any QMUL employee can apply for a change in their contract.  The application form can also be used by managers as a check list to enable them to respond appropriately to any application they receive.

Please note that there is no automatic right to work flexibly There may be sound practical and business reasons why the College is unable to accommodate the work pattern you have in mind.

However, the College’s Code of Practice on “Flexible Working” aims to ensure that:

  • any application you make is given serious consideration;
  • if your application is refused, you will be given the reason why and a right of appeal.

You may apply to change your contract once in any twelve month period.
