Sickness Absence
The College has harmonised its sickness benefit scheme from April 1st 2010 so that Academic, Research, Professional, Nursery, Security and Support Staff all enjoy the benefits of the same scheme.
One of the conditions of the scheme is that staff who are unable to attend work because of a medical condition must comply with the sickness notification procedure.
You can also find information on these pages about the new “fit note” introduced by the Government in April 2010.
The College also has two Codes of Practice designed to help managers deal with cases where an employee’s sickness record is affecting the work or business of the College. The Code of Practice on Supporting Staff through Sickness mirrors the “informal stage” found in other Codes of Practice. For cases which cannot be resolved using that Code, the College has a Code of Practice on Managing Persistent Sickness Absence. The concepts and ideas underlying both Codes are discussed in the document “ Key Concepts: Implementing the Codes of Practice on Sickness”.
