QMUL's leave year runs from 1 August - 31 July.
The annual leave entitlement for full-time staff is 30 working days.
Part-time and part-year staff are entitled to annual leave on a pro-rata basis.

Carry over of annual leave:
All leave should be taken within the year it is earned and that carry over should only be permitted in exceptional circumstances. Carry over of leave is at the discretion of the relevant Head of School or equivalent. Up to 5 days will normally be permissible to be carried over if owing to the needs of the work or lengthy absence from work you were unable to take the full entitlement. Staff wishing to request carry over of annual leave should start having conversations with their line manager in June/July with a view to obtaining the necessary approval as to whether any unused leave (and how many days) can be carried over. Once the current leave year has ended and the amount of unused leave is clearly defined, staff will then be able to make a request through MyHR. The functionality to carry over leave will be made available from the beginning of August each year and will normally close at the end of September. Where the request is above 5 days this will only be sanctioned where there is an appropriate explanation for why the leave has not been used during the leave year and where a clear plan has been agreed to the carried over leave to be used in reasonable timeframe. Colleagues will not be permitted to carry over in excess of 5 days on a regular year to year basis.
In addition to annual leave, full-time members of staff are entitled to paid holidays on the eight-public holidays.
Part-time staff are entitled to paid leave on bank holidays on which they would otherwise have worked.
Similarly, staff on part-year contracts are entitled to paid leave on the bank holidays for which they are scheduled to work - though such staff may find that they are not contracted to work on public holidays or during College closure days.
College Closure Days:
Full-time staff are entitled to paid holidays on four other days when QMUL closes. These are generally clustered around the Christmas and New Year Bank Holidays, but the exact days on which the College will close are announced after consultation with the recognised trade union(s). The College may sometimes, and at its sole discretion, grant paid holidays on additional closure days.
For part-time and part-year staff, College closure days are treated in the same way as Bank Holidays.
Leave entitlement in the year of entry or leaving:
Annual leave will be calculated on a pro-rata basis. When your employment ends, you are entitled to be paid for any annual leave accrued but not taken. Similarly, if you have taken more leave than you are entitled to, your final salary will be adjusted.
Full-time staff who join or leave mid-year are (of course) entitled only to bank holidays and closure days that fall within their period of employment. The same is true for part-time and part-year staff.
