In these pages we set out and discuss a number of the College’s generous provisions on time off.
We discuss College arrangements for annual leave, bank holidays and closure days.
Leave for family reasons
The pages include information about all the College’s arrangements for maternity, paternity, shared parental and adoption leave, etc.. In QMUL, we have extended the legal duty to consider requests from staff to work flexibly in order to meet caring obligations and will consider requests made for any reason
The College offers its Academic Staff generous Sabbatical leave; these pages give access to the QMUL policy and the application form.
Unpaid time off to train
In addition to the College’s own generous provisions on staff development, staff have a legal right to apply for time off for training under Section 63D of the Employment Rights Act. Staff are encouraged to use the College’s own provisions for staff development rather than use the legal right, which is limited to unpaid time off. These pages include a number of tools to assist managers to respond lawfully to any “Section 63D” request that they do receive.
