Salary Protection

This page gives information about Salary Protection and the Salary Protection Policy.

The College offers to protect the pay of staff in two situations.

Firstly, the College has a policy covering staff whose posts have been red-circled as part of the National Pay Framework Agreement.

Secondly, the College has a policy covering staff redeployed into a lower paid job under the College's Redeployment Procedure.

The provisions of each policy are designed for different circumstances and are therefore not interchangeable.  There is no discretion for staff or managers to opt for the provisions that they find most advantageous.

Salary Protection for Red Circled Posts

The salary protection policy (agreed for posts red circled as part of the National Pay Framework Agreement) provides up to four years salary protection which took effect from 1 May 2009; this applies to individuals where both job evaluation and subsequent discussion with the head of department/director of institute at the end of 2008 confirmed a lower grade to where the individual was placed on the grading structure.

In practice affected individuals will continue to receive pay awards, but no further annual increments will be paid. We will be working with departments/institutes to provide support on a case by case basis in line with the policy.
